It’s probably the diet you’re feeding the bird . I’d advise ya to visit a veterinarian/avain immediately for assistance before any further problems , The bird is maybe stressed #I think so .

I would like to know my African grey male parrot is biteing to female so what can be the reason please reply

Reply ↓ Luisa 27. August 2015 at 9:29

My female has for the second time laid one egg, but then when you look again, the eggs been cracked open and eaten. Not too sure if its her or my male. why would they do that? I haven’t got a box in the cage either, would that be the problem? Do I need to separate them after she has laid?

Reply ↓ Michele 3. September 2015 at 23:31

They are probably playing with it or rolling it on the bottom of the cage and it broke. Limit their light to no more than 10 hours a day and make sure their aren’t any dark hiding places and she should stop laying. If the behavior continues you will need to supplement her diet with calcium so she doesnt get depleted and leech it from her bones laying eggs.

No don’t have to split them my pair of African greys have 4 eggs the hen stays on the nest and the male feeds her before I put the nest box in the female plucket her chest feathers out they were trying to build a nest on the bottom of the cage before the nest box went in the eggs seem to be fertile will find out if they hatch in a couple of weeks. Hi I have a 19 year old african grey and I think he is a male. My ex husband and I raised him from a hatch-ling, my ex husband had him when we split many years ago and now I have him…..I am wondering if I put a nest box in his cage so he may stay a bit warmer ( I am in Canada) would this confuse or stress him seeing as he does not have a mate?

We have had our African Gray since 1992. She was hatched in 1991. We have a male gold capped conure that is older and lived with us before Echo came along. They are in separate cages but within the same room as they have always been. Imagine our surprise to find an egg in her cage this morning. Is it normal for a 25 year old to lay eggs? Would she be a candidate for breeding?

Hi we have two african grey birds. We thought they were both males but the one laid an egg yesterday. What is the best food to give her now and we are thinking of putting the two together to mate. Is this advisable? Must we just put them together or what is the procedure most often to do.

Hi there,

Hope all is well.

I just got four pairs of African grey, matured and they are wild parrots, however, I really don’t like having my birds each in one cage but I am not sure if possible to have them the four pairs on one aviary which the size is 2m X 5m and height is almost 3 meters.

Are they aggressive parrot?

Majority says individuals is better for breeding but still some says still I can breed in a group aviary!

Originally I am breeding Mutation Indian Ringneck that is an aggressive bird however I had breed them in individual cage each pair BUT i found it is better to have them in a group aviary.

Appreciate if you can help me with my query regarding my African Grey.

Thank you

Regards, Naser
