Padraig Harrington's matchplay record stands up to careful scrutiny so he'll be one Tour professional taking a special interest in the Walker Cup which starts at the weekend.
And in our special competition we're offering an exclusive chance to win a replica of the Wilson Staff player's cheese-cutter cap he wore at The Open.
The Irishman has played in three Waker Cup matches (1991, 1993 and 1995 as a winner) as well as six Ryder Cups - emerging as a winner on four occasions.
Ever since he spent time with the current GB & I Walker Cup squad in Dublin at the turn of the year, he has kept in touch with captain Nigel Edwards to help with preparations and to ensure the team is mentally alert and ready for this weekend's clash again the cream of US Amateurs at Royal Aberdeen.
“I have fond memories of playing in the Walker Cup and rate my three appearances very highly on my list of personal achievements. I learned a great deal during that time and I gained considerable experience, which has helped me throughout my professional career,” said Harrington.
“It was a pleasure to spend time with the next generation of Great Britain and Ireland’s elite players, and I hope that some of my advice will help them in their preparations."
Says Edwards: “Padraig knows what an honour it is to play in a Walker Cup, and what it can mean in terms of future career development. I'm sure the players will be inspired to go out there and prove that they deserve a place in the team.”
